Default Head Casting?

Hello,

I posted this over on the C6 forum, but have got no replys. This is probably a dumb question, but I am still learning about the Vettes and Chevy motors. Are the LS2 Heads (243castings) the same heads on the C5 Vettes? My buddy has a set of 12561706Z casting heads and was hoping they were the same, so we could work those heads.

Thanks

Same castings but they don't contain the sodium filled valves that a z06 would. From what I understand everything else is the same...

Are the heads the same........maybe.

C6's (up to 07) use the 243 heads. 243 heads were offered (officially) only on C5 Z06 models. The assembly of the C5 Z06 heads were different, since, as was mentioned, they used light weight valves and different springs for a higher RPM redline.

08+ C6's use the L76/L92 heads.

In the 243 heads, I believe there were 3 facilites that made them, with 2 different processes. Forget the specifics, but one style was better for future porting work. (sand cast vs. investment cast?)

All coupe and vert C5's got 241 heads. For confirmation, there should be a casting number at one edge of the heads. Don't bother doing anything to 241 heads.

Through the magic of Google, entering the part number 12561706 show them being 5.3 heads. Many C5's run the 5.3 heads since they bump compression ratio, but I don't think they'd do too well on a C6, since the smaller valves would likely cause a bottleneck on the larger displacement. (I can't verify the accuracy of the search, so do your homework before moving forward).

All c5's coupes and verts did not get 241 castings. I wouldn't say dont bother with 241s, you will be seeing my 241 casting H/C car going 10s this fall

Fair enough, there were 853's used as well.

As for not bothering with the 241's......I'll stand by that. You yourself admitted regret in a thread that you didn't step up to cartek 243's.

If I'm not mistaken there was also an 806 casting on the earlier ls1s.

Good memory Yes I would have rather gone with the 243s. When I built the motor my goal was to get into the 10s. I should be able to accomplish that without a problem this fall with my ported 241s. Now I am looking past that towards either an ls2 stroker or a more agressive H/C setup after I reach my first goal. Once I step it up to a more agressive seyup I don't want to limit it with ls1 heads which is why I wish I spent the extra monay and went with the 243s from the start.

Sounds awesome Can't wait to see it in action. With the planned setup are you going for the 9's?

Me, I'm stuck in the 12's for the foreseeable future. When my extended warranty runs out, it's supercharger time. I'll skip right over those pesky 11's.

9's? Probably not. We will see how agressive I want to go and if I want to deal with all the breakage. I'm keeping it a 6 speed NA street car so I'm not gonna get to crazy. Most likely low 10s. But thats a loooooong ways away, I haven't given it that much thought.
