Default Need advice on my 2003

I'm thinking of adding ceramic 3" LT's w/X-pipe. My shop guys says I don't need the cats, that the lube guys never look under the car. What do you think? Any suggestions on a high-flow exhaust systems? I was also thinking of an axle back bolt-on job from Magnaflow that I could do my self and maybe keep the factory cats?

Thanks,
Scott

Without the cats the car's exhaust really stinks. I mean bad.
I put on the Dynomax LTs with their high flow cats and X pipe after having the whole thing ceramic coated. Couldn't be happier with fit, finish, and performance. I run a Borla cat back, but that's on the track car. I run a Magnaflow on the DD and the sound is just right for that.

Its not easy to keep the factory cats with most LT systems, not a whole lot of room under there. The term cat-back is kind of miss-leading on a Vette, the cats are up front before the cross over, and the LT collectors usually take up a lot of the room where the stock cats sit. Depending on which system you get you could with work re-use them, but it may be more work than its worth. But, I could not tell you what kits would lend themselfs to keeping the cats, just that some claim they have re-used them. I would suggest getting High flow cats with the system you choose. Keep the cats/H pipe or sell it.

FYI, you will either need to cut the stock cat-back, have a lifit, or jack the rear up very high to get them out. Its not a bad job, except for the lifting part.

I'd find another shop. It's a violation of federal law to tamper with emission control devices.

All header systems offer cats for their road systems. If you're only going to track the car then you can use a cat less system.

Definately keep the cats and go with a set of LG's or Kook's headers...I went with TPiS because I got an amazing deal on the forums for them and they are also another really good choice!
