Default Delay in starter when turning the key. Sometimes nothing.

Hi Everyone, I have suddenly developed a delay when I turn the key the starter does not engage right away. The gauges are fine and act normal. I turn the key sometimes and the starter does nothing and this will happen a few times then the starter engages and off I go. I have checked all obvious battery terminals and grounds that I can see. The starter I have not yet. Does the starter have a solenoid that once the key is turned to the start position this allows voltage to go thru? I do not hear any clicking. I am afraid this may be over my expertise any ideas?????????????

I had a similar problem. Is your vette an MN6? This may sound a little weird, but I found that if I pushed the clutch in really hard it turned over. It could have something to do with that safety feature. Just my guess.

Default Starter Delay

Hi, yes the starter has a solenoid. But before you jump to that conclusion. It's a good idea to pull the dtc codes if any. You should confirm that you have a good battery, a load test is the only true test. But you can use a volt meter across the terminals, it should read NO Lower than 12.2 volts, and closer to 12.6 if it is fully charged. You should check the cables thoroughly. The pos and neg at the battery need to be clean and tight, also the cable that goes to the starter at the starter, it can loosen up, make sure it is clean and tight,(be careful when working down there you can short out on surrounding metal very easy), also the cable to the fuse block under the battery box. Once these things are verified, there are other possibilities, such as the neutral safety switch,(auto), or clutch switch,(manual), ig switch bad contacts, loose connectors to the TDS and others.
Good Luck
