I have a 04 coupe with a 6 speed, I just bought a Hurst shifter and on the box it states it fits 97-2000 T56 tranny.
On the instruction sheet it states it fits 97-04 T56 trannys. I have no idea which tranny is in mine, I did not know there was more than one 6 speed offered. How can I determine if this shifter is going to fit before tearing into it?
How did you get one with such an old box?
The Hurst shifter should fit all C5's, (and C6's even).
The base of the shifters are all the same. Some people have been installing C6 shifters in their C5's.
Thanks for the info, I guess it has been sitting in the warehouse for awhile. I bought it from Summit Racing (they are local here).
I also bought a shifter ****, also from Hurst but it does not fit the shifter.
The **** came with six different adaptors, but none of the adaptors will fit the shifter.
I cant believe Hurst would make a shifter that their own shifter ***** will not fit.
Thats weird that the shift **** wont fit...I know the threads on this particular shifter are made to fit the stock **** which was obviously specified by GM back in the day...
Regardless, when you install the shifter, be sure to follow the directions regarding the "over-shift" set screws. Some people say set them properly with loc-tite, others say completely remove them. Pick one or the other but make sure you do it because if you dont, those setscrews rattle around and eventually block out certain gears....then you have to take apart the car again to set or remove them...

Mine didn't fit either, so I got a custom **** and used epoxy to hold it fast.
Of course it came out and was replaced with a C6 shifter and I'll never go back. The Hurst was way too notchy and stiff, even with the lighter springs installed.

Took the shift **** back to Summit, Hurst does not make the pistol grip shift **** in the 9/16X18 thread for the vette shifter now.
So I bought the white classic shift ****.
Now to get it installed, maybe this weekend.
