Anybody have one of these on their car? http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum/c5corsteerwh.html
If so, how do you like it? Is the quality pretty good? I'd like
to buy one but want to make sure it is of good quality leather. :)
Thanks!
I've got one and I like it...Some of the guys on the forum thought it was cheap and hard to put on, but to each his own..Quality is decent and I like the feel of it...Bought mine through Rob at Cruise control...
I bought mine from design specialties. If this is where this one came from then yes the quality is really good and it
looks awesome.

I didn't see Design Specialties (unless I'm blind :D) under the forum vendor list. Is theirs the same price as the one on the
forum mall? Do they have a website? Thanks! :)
I bought one and did not like it. The install on the one in the photo looks okay in the picture, but in person you can tell it falls a little short on quality in my opinion.
I could not live with the fact that the bottom color did not line up with the steering wheel spokes. Again, just an opinion.

Did you buy the one from the forum mall? I know WCC sells one as well. I was going to buy one from one of their vendors that is locally. They told me that it was not that great quality wise so I didn't buy it. Maybe I'll just wait and do the Ken King one. :)
As far as I know, the thing is made by Wheelskins regardless of vendor. The earlier ones had a problem with the bottom colored portion not lining up with the spokes. This has been fixed on the newer ones, at least as supplied by Top Notch (#WSC5-Eurospec). The key to getting it to look and feel nice is to get it even and tight. This is best accomplished by asking for a second needle and thread, and you then put the thing on with opposing stitching. Hard to explain, but easy to do. Grab a baseball, and duplicate the stitch used for the cover, and you got it. DO NOT use standard leather cleaners on the thing, or the color will leach out of the leather. Use Saddle Soap, and all will be well.
I just looked at the box it came in. It is a "wheelskins cover". It also has "corvette" stiched onto it. It looks awesome and I did put it on myself and I did have to pull the thread real tight as I stiched it. The quality is real good. I paid $75 for it, but I guess that might be because of the corvette name on it.
Here is a pic of mine. I like it I think it looks good and feels good. To each there own....but it breaks up a dull wheel. Give yourself 45 min and do yourself a favor a good pair of leather goleves. It will tear you up if not wearing gloves :)
The Light Oak/Black cover as shown in my store is one I installed on my brothers '01 Coupe. All of these covers, regardless of where you purchase it, are made by Wheelskins. The difference is I have them make the bottom section wider than the standard covers sold elsewhere. You'll notice the difference in the picture iceburgh68 posted, that's the standard Eurotone as supplied by Wheelskins. I think they look better with the bottom section not lined up in the middle of the spokes.
I also got them to do the Light Oak and Torch Red leather, these are not included in their standard 13 colors, that's why they cost a little more. Wheelskins does not do the "Corvette" embroidery either, that's done by the vendor that offers them (I'm not sure who that is though). As mentioned by George above, don't use any sort of leather cleaner or conditioner on them. By the way, thanks for the mention George.

Rob,
I will probably be ordering a Light Oak/Black one from your forum mall store soon. Is the install pretty easy?
The install is not hard, but you do need to take your time and make sure you follow the directions that will come with it. As mentioned by others, it's a good idea to either wear a glove or do what I do and tape up my pinky and ring finger with duct tape. When you pull the thread tight, it can and will cut into your fingers! If you decide to do the "baseball" stitch, just put a message in the comments box of the order form and I'll have a second needle and thread sent with it. I've never done it, but I've seen them done with two threads and it does look good. For the normal installation, allow yourself 45 minutes to an hour.
I bought one for my last car and once I took it out of the box I just thought it would be too hard to install. You have to thread it all the way around, was gonna give my grandmother a project but she had a tought time getting into the driver's seat ;)

Rob,
I'm going to order it in a second. Incase I screw up my order online, I want the combo like you put on your brothers car.... Light Oak (top and bottom) and black (left and right side) w/the baseball stitch. :D
I think I'll just take it to an upholstery shop and have them put it on. I live too far from my Grandmother to give her the project! ;)
**Update**
Rob,
Just placed my order and there was no comment box on the order form so I could not include a message to include the extra needle and thread. If you see my order, please include that stuff. :) Thanks!
I saw this post and ordered my cover from Cruise Control on Thursday and it arrived here this morning ! I love the wat the yellow and black wheel looks.
Thanks for the tip on the extra needle and thread for the baseball stitch as well.
Great service.
