I'm having 3.42's put in shortly (provided Steve Cole doesn't take forever to setup my Powerloader) and I wanted to see if my thinking on this is right....
Top speed: If I'm not mistaken the C5 doesnt hit the rev limiter when top spped is hit, the car just can't push any harder, so with that line of reasoning does that mean with 3.42 that I won't lose any top end, it will just be revving higher when it gets there?
I am not sure about an A4 but I think the M6 top speed is on the rev limiter at the top of 5th gear (won't pull 6th at that speed). I know the Z06 has different transmission ratios but does that include 5th. The Z06 has a lower advertised top speed. If it has a lower 5th gear that would account for the difference. If not, I would say the top speed is limited by aerodynamic drag because the FRC body has a slightly higher (worse) coefficient of drag.
On the other hand it will probably not be a factor since almost no one ever takes their C5 to its top speed.
I have also. I have the 2.73 in mine but will also be putting in the 3.42 I have been told the car will lose about 5 mph on top end.. Guess I'll find out eventually.
