What causes our check valves to look so bad (rust)? Why would it get an excessive amount of moisture? I replaced my three years ago and they look horrible.

I think the remote location of the passenger side check valve is the main cause of it's rust related failures.
Moisture in the exhaust gases will condense in the length of stainless steel tubing that connects the check valve to the right side exhaust manifold. Over time, this moisture causes rust and corrosion inside the check valve.
It's too bad the AIR check valves are not made of stainless steel.
