Default Need help with new brake rotors!

I need some advice/recommendations for new rotors to replace my factory rotors. I like the look of the baer eradispeed rotors, but I hear that they do not give you any performance enhancements. Are there any rotors out there that are not only good quality, look good and perform better than the factory rotors?? Please help, since I am planning on some majors upgrades in speed and need some good stopping power as well. I don't want to spend 3 to 6k on some Brembo package thats for sure! Thx

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have another question. How can rotors alone improve brake performance? Isn't it more a combination of rotors, calipers, pads, brake lines, and brake fluid? I don't think any rotor by itself will improve performance.

Rotors alone can improve your braking. If they are cross drilled they will keep your pads cleaner and reduce glazing of the pads. If they are cross drilled and slotted they will reduce the chance of glazing even more, you will just wear your pads out a little faster. Buy a good quality rotor look for one that has been freeze tempered that will help with preventing warping.

CorvetteSS..Your right about the overall performance gains of all the brake systems working together. I guess I was a little unclear on this..I want a GOOD quality rotor that will work well with the ss brake lines, stock pads and calipers on a 98. Thx

Bluevette..Thanks for the info and I will shop around for those. Not sure if I have seen the freeze tempered rotors.

Sorry to disagree with this, but it is my understanding (and pretty common agreement with the road racers in my area) that with today's pads, there is no need for drilled and slotted rotors. They actually HURT performance, since you have less swept area, as well as less mass to dissipate heat. They sure do look cool, though, if that is what you are after. Older pad technology did have some problems, and drilled/slotted rotors did help.

I've confirmed this in my discussions with Baer about the Eradispeed rotors. The drilling/slotting is for looks. However, they feel confident that for OTHER reasons, those rotors are better than stock. What you want from rotors is to be able to keep the braking system as cool as possible. Mass of rotors, different metal, cooling fins, etc all help this. Additionally, different rotors are more prone to cracking and warping than others.

Finally, a local racer here tested the "Cryogenic" rotors on road courses. He did notice somewhat improved life, and resistance to cracking, but felt that it didn't justify the extra cost.

Hope this helps, not trying to start trouble, just post a different opinion.

GM sells a drilled slotted rotor (don't have the P/N) that is lower cost than Baer erdispeeds. BTW, the eradispeeds are a totally new casting and have more thickness between the webs to improve dissipation.
