Default Can anybody help a lost camaro guy

I have a 68 camaro that I have a 468 and a th400 in now. After buying my c5 with the 6 speed I have no desire to drive the car anymore unless I am going to drag. I am seriously considering a 6 speed swap. I was told that I should get one out of an late f body but I was wondering if anyone has any info about hooking up a torque tube to a bbc? It would be something completely different and I think if I put a C5 or C6 chassie under the back it would be amazing. Let me know what you know or your opinion, besides sell it and buy a vette. Thanks

Some thoughts .....

The wheelbase and vehicle length of a C5/C6 is different than a '68 Camaro ..... the Camaro is (I believe) about 10 inches longer than a C6 Corvette and about 5 inches longer than a C5...... so ..... You need to look into the length of the drivetrain of that Camaro versus the length of the Corvette drivetrain. Given that the #7 sparkplug is already virtually impossible to get to on a Camaro ... you need to be sure that the Corvette drivetrain won't move the engine further to the rear of the car. Otherwise you'll have to find some way to lengthen the torque tube ... and that wouldn't be easy ....

The other issue to consider is that many drag racers apparently believe that the solid axle layout in a Camaro is better for drag racing versus the Corvette's independant suspension.

I don't see much gain in installing a Corvette drivetrain ..... other than the "wow" factor. Seems to me a 6 speed from an F-Body would be an easier upgrade, and could well improve the car's performance.

Just my thoughts ....

I have owned Novas for the past 21 years (first a 1968 then a 1969). I can understand what you are saying about the C5 being a lot more fun to drive than the old muscle car. My Nova still has it's place for street cruise ins and drag racing, but I have to say it hasn't been driven nearly as often since I got into Corvettes. I am considering an LS engine build for the Nova now...

I saw this done, oddly enough in a 1970 Dodge Charger. Someone used an old school 426 Hemi and mated it to a C5 driveline and did the whole 6 speed transaxle thing, he did need a custom adapter, clutch, and flywheel, along with having the TT lengthened, but he did it and it worked!

You pretty much have to cut out the whole floor and the firewall and build up from there. The engine will sit way back under the cowl. Get the torque tube lengthened about 3" to make it fit the Camaro wheelbase.

Do a google search for "project 50/50" and look at the first 2 links. I could send you pics of the 69 I've got in my garage 1/2 done but these pics are as good.
