Please excuse my ignorance, I want to lower my C5 about 1 inch all the way around. My car has the z51 package. What exactly do I need to do? Do you reccommend getting new shocks and coil-overs? Thank you for all your help
Best thing to do is, type "lowering" in the search box and you will find lots of threads with detailed instructions, pros and cons and opinions on this very subject. There is lots of info on this subject. :yesnod:
I will end this thread by saying.......Cut 2/3 of the bushings in front and turn bolts all the way up, get the longer bolt in the rear and adjust the rear until happy......this should give you about an inch. If you don't like your ride after awhile get the Bilstein Sport shock for around $299......Hope this helps :seeya
I'm lowering pretty soon also. I don't intend to cut front bushings - most say that the most you'll get in the front without cutting is 3/4". The back I will lower probably 1.25 inches. I'm definietly getting the Billsteins. If I were you, I would invest in the Frame Savers because there will most likely be some time when youy are scraping. I hear from lots of guys that they wish they had purchased the Frame Savers long ago.
Bo,
Don't get hung up on 1". 3/4" may look fine to you.
Lower the car with the stock bolts front and rear and see how you like it after a few weeks. At this point you have not lost anything. You will probably get about 3/4" from this method.
If this is not low enough, cut the front bushings and get longer bolts for the rear. Never, never cut the rear bushings.
My last car was a '99 C5 with Z-51 suspension and I lowered it by cutting the front bushings and getting longer bolts for the rear.
The ride suffered a little over stock but not much.
Good luck with it.
