So tonight I was talking my wheels off to polish and wax inside of rims, check brake pad life, etc. The rears came off and went back on easy. The front left wheel lugs came right off. The front right wheel felt real stiff. I put some PB blaster on them and let it sit for a while. I came back and and started torquing on it with a standard lug nut wrench and a wheel stud sheered. Some of the others felt like they might too. What should I do?

stop talking too much to them maybe the lugs wont fall off next time. =)
sounds like you will need new stud bolts no big deal. Take it to a tire shop and let them air wrench them off and replace the bolts.
Haha, my bad. I usually try to correct and typos. Oh well. Thanks for the info. What do wheel studs cost a piece?
I could swear I posted a reply to this earlier ....
The studs are part number 10414261 and GM list price is $4.25 each.
Forum supporting vendors sell them for around $3.00 ..... but after you add shipping, unless you're getting several .... dropping by the dealer is probably easier.
you can fit the stock ones in w/o taking the hub off, just tap the broken part out with a hammer (carefully) and slide the new one in. Then put a long socket over the threaded side and use a c-clamp to press it in place.
The 2001 shop manual tell you to remove the rear hub to replace a wheel stud. It looks like a fairly big job to do it.
Did you find any "shortcuts" in the procedure when you did yours?
I drilled a hole in the e brake backing plate, and inserted the new studs thru the hole. You have to remove the brake pad assy. It is held in place by a retaing spring which is a pita to get back in.
I secured the spring to the pad assy to hold the spring in position, while securing the spring to the backing plate. The position of the hole is important.
If you need to replace rear studs, pm me for my cell #, and I can explain it better on the phone.
Just a suggestion. Prior to installing the studs use a large crayon, we used to use yellow ones with sprint cars and coat the threads with it's wax. You can use an ordinary candle. We used a yellow crayon so we could see easily that they were coated. Even though they are torqued to spec they are easy off and easy on as the wax melts when the nuts are installed, by compressor or by hand. Will usually stop breaking off studs on install or remove.
Whats wrong with an impact gun? Can they not torque to 100ft lb with them?
They use a torque stick on the gun, which may not be real accurate.
My lugs were at 130lbs when I checked them, with my torque wrench. The head on my lug key was pretty beat up from them using a impact wrench. Just to be safe No More impact guns will be used on my wheels.
