installing an interior switch
I would like to install an interior switch to turn on / off my radar detector. The thing is pretty much a permanent fixture in the car and I'm tired of having the detector power cable draped over the dash and taking up the cig lighter. I know I could get a battery powered one, but there's still the issue of reaching up to the front of the dash to turn it on and off.
Instead of re-inventing the wheel here, I figured someone must having done something similar. Where did you get the switch and how did you mount it? I'm thinking somewhere down low, sort of under the dash but not out of sight.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Most people wire the radar unit into the "pigtail" wires provided in the passenger footwell for add on devices. Look to the left of the I/P fuse block and you should see three wires taped together. They are YELLOW, ORANGE and BLACK wires. The YELLOW wire is powered off Fuse 11 and is hot when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON positions. The ORANGE wire is powered off Fuse 7 and is hot at all times. The BLACK wire is the ground wire. Most people wire a radar detector to the YELLOW wire so it powers off when you shut off the engine.
If you want the radar unit off, then turn it off ..... why do you need a "switch" for it ???? The radar detector already has an ON/OFF switch.
