well, i actually am upset at myself for stooping to their levels. i got in on a thread about this subject. there are threads about C5 and Viper kills that these F-body owners like to brag about. apparently, we have inferior cars. these kids all bragging about how bad they beat up on C5's in their stock to slightly modified F-bodies. and we're talking like several car lengths in just a short race, too. well, i have spent a better part of the last year at the drag strip with my C5 and have raced and seen raced many, many ls1 f-bodies. never saw one of them beat a c5 vette. hmmm.. where are all these killer 'stock' f-bodies hanging out?!?! :lol: :lol: :lol:

These are the same kids who tell their friends they nailed the hottest girl in school and then go home and grab their sister's Cosmo and a tub of vasoline. Don't worry about the garbage they spew, the more they brag the slower their car is.

 

Can I offer a slightly different view? I believe you are correct in that there is a LOT of that type behavior on that forum, however, there are certainly some folks over there that have a serious interest in their cars, the ls1, and performance. And they are good people. You do have to sort through more chaff to find the little "nuggets" than here.

Since about 1967 there has been a corvette/camaro rivalry where the younger crowd tries to unseat the generally older corvette guys. To me, this is a GOOD thing, as it keeps everyone, including chevrolet, on their toes, and improves the breed of both cars. Not only that, the fbody folks are the next generation of vette owners, so be glad they are so passionate! They really are two different cars, and stock to stock, there is no comparison between the vette and the fbody.

Like was pointed out, if you want to see outrageous whining, lies, etc, check out any ford or import forum. I think as the performance declines, the b.s. grows exponentially....:)

 

Ryan, I agree with you. The whole F-Body crowd, for the most part is somewhat like you mention, even though we do have our fair share of kids here too :) ...

 

Yey, alot of them are just blowing smoke... I have to admit though that when I was down at Beach Bend in Kentucky last year at the Cruise-In II, I got my **** kicked 3 times by a slightly modified Camaro with supposedly just an intake... I was running times like 13.2 @ 107 and didn't win once to the female driver... She was pulling numbers sub 13's. It was a humbling experience considering that I was told just an intake upgrade was on the Camaro. Let's see 50K vs. 30K... get my drift? Fortunately for the vette guys and before she could kill any more vettes, she blew the rear-end out at the starting line. All in all I have had the experience and have won most other times against F-bodys :yesnod:

Why are you actually trolling through the street racer section? Surely you understand that on pretty much any board, thats the "Talk Smack" section. I don't even waste my time looking. Generally a bunch of kids post in sections like that, serious people usually don't bother. I call 'em joke sections, 'cause they're usually only good for laughs.

Besides, most of the serious tech guys moved over to LS1tech.com because of all the B-S at LS1. Good site, people actually seem interested in helping others. :cheers:

 

I hate to rain in on the parade but I see a lot of that same crap over here on this forum. So read between the lines. If you have been following ls1.com for longer than a month you will have noticed that there is often performance related topics that appear there before here. A lot of people get behind their keyboards and open up a bottle of liquid courage. Ls1.com is not immune to it.

Some truth about F Bodies......they experience less drivetrain loss and are a little cheaper to mod. So some same but less expensive mods combined with less drivetrain loss and a good driver could very easily beat the same modded C5. Its like people stating that Cartek has the fastest H&C package (don't mistake me here CARTEK has an excellent product..kudos to Dave & Julio) but actually it is C5Pig as a driver that makes it the fastest H&C package on a C5.

The fastest recorded LS1 that I have seen is an F Body, and I believe Nick Agostino has that ride. :cool:

 

Just a side question. I thought Wade's C5 running 9.4x or so, was the quickest ls1 based street car using an ARE motor.

I think colonel is the quickest NA (in an f-body) at 9.9x or so.

Lots of kids there at LS1.com. There are a several fast F bodies out there running 12a\11s but to say they waste C5s in stock form or with air filter is :bs

So lets get this straight:

1. fbody owners are kids
2. We're just jealous that we don't own a vette
3. We all lie
4. Its silly to think a fbody can beat a vette stock for stock

So here is my opinion

1. Many of us are over 30yo.. lots over 40 even
2. Sure lots of fbody people got the cars because they could get a car with the same hp as a vette for $20,000 less.. Other like myself could have bought a vette but liked the (in my case) Camaro SS.. I like that it had a backseat.. I didnt "settle" for anything.. i paid cash for my SS so im sure i could have swung a vette :rolleyes: ~~ Im sure if you waved viper keys in front of most vette owners there would be a sudden surge in membership over at the viper board.
3. the kill section should be called the exagerate section.. You go there to get an impression of a board?? Ive seen many vette owners here brag that they beat a viper or such.. shouldnt they be excited they beat a worthy car?
4. Ive beat vettes and been beaten by vettes.. whats your point?

I think you can find a fair amount of jerks on any board.. and you will also find the majority are very friendly good people..

Its threads like this that give vette owners their snooty, elitest reputation.. (a good example of baseing an opinion about a group on a the actions of a few)

Geez......why even bother to get upset with them?
I often meet thise kids standing beside of me waiting for the greenlight, no way I will fall for it..I actually get a good laugh when they burning out their tires and looking in the mirror and see if I'm still hangin on, and they get useal real supriced when they see I slowly accelerate out of the crossing, and just enjoying my corvette (I know what my car REAL can do). :cool:

I've been over ther but not very often because of childlike responses. I remember one through no provocation whatsoever decides to assign a snail icon at the end of his post while saying that i had a slow butt vette. My response was the snail was cute.

Many of the owners on that forum seem to lean towarsd the immature side so there's no point in arguing with them. I'm sure thare are some mature owners over there as well but I look at this way. Any car can be made to go fast. The point of these forums is to share knowledge, not to say the typical adolescent "My car is better than Your Car" crap.

 

I think you will all find http://www.ls1tech.com a better alternative to http://www.ls1.com

 

kudos Steves2000SS for presenting the big picture. I, too, feel that what we are talking about here is Chevy power. An LS1 is an LS1.

 

well i own a 99 WS6 Trans Am and a 97 C5 and stock for stock the WS6 would win, mainly because the 3.42 gears vs. the 2.73 in the vette, so this makes some of the vette kills you here about true, but i agree with the childishness and i prefer the corvetteforum, i am actually trying to sell the trans am, the vette is just so much finer!!

 

Well I can clear up the stockc5 versus stock Fbody comparison. My son and I often run together at the dragstrip. He has a 99 T/A Ram air and it is always a close race until half track when my C5 starts to pull on his T/A. He installed a Yank convertor but most of the time he can't get traction. Now when he gets traction I almost catch him by the cones. F bodys run really good at the track! Seems like the C5's make more midrange power though? Just my observation from the drag strip!

 

the vette is the better car no doubt but don't kid yourself. I'm looking for a vette myself but My T/A had no trouble hanging with vettes in straight line performance. It also looks like Fbody folks do more than exaust tip changes for mods. Percentage wise I would say the Fbody is more likley to get Mods other than for appearance. My T/A had all the bolt ons and MTI heads/cam with a 3500 vigilanti converter. Ran high 11.7s on motor. Never got whooped buy alot of vettes. the fbody is a lot of bang for the buck. Its to bad its leaving. I'm buying a vette but not because its faster than an fbody, just a better all round car. My 2 cents.
