if you can thread a hole with a tap, you can fly cut your pistons.
I would suggest using a tap handle on the cutting tool and not a drill as well. THe aluminum is very easy to cut and very very easy to cut to much with all the weight of the drill pressing onto the little stop.

I cut the first notch by hand, then used a 3/8" air ratchet to do the rest...it doesn't turn nearly as fast, and doesn't have the torque of a drill. I found it worked really well, still provided a lot of "feel" and control, and definitely saved some time and arm work.
