Re: Update on seat rocking? (edge99hardtop)
Very irritating isn't it? I had this problem addressed on the driver side seat by the dealer a while back under warranty and the problem has not occured since. The problem is the seat Adjuster I believe. The part number is 12455535. They will have to pull the entire seat and assembly out to fix this but your warranty should cover it. BTW, this a common problem with alot of C5's.
Are we talking about the same thing? You apply the brake and your seat moves a little bit forward of backwards??? Mine does that, it is annoying. All I need is the part number to order the piece from Chevy and I can install it and be done with the seat rocking???
I had major rocking, and after an exasperating discussion with the dealer (and many calls by him to HQ) and showing him printouts of the NUMEROUS seat rock threads here, convinced them replace the seat tracks with the only thing available at the time, PN 12455535. That has fixed it thus far, but I understand that sometimes, if you use the adjustment a lot, it will wear and start rocking again. Once I got mine set "just so" with the new parts, I unplugged the damn motor. It ain't gonna rock no mo'!!!!
There is a rumor that the seat tracks have been improved but still carry the same PN, and there is another rumor that there is a "new and improved" PN. This may be a misunderstanding due to memory seat vs the base seat, etc. Does anybody really know the answer?
I was told that a new improved part will be available sometime December. It is now just past December so I will call the dealer when I get time to remember. They wouldn't fix mine with the current part number I got off this forum because they said that it was not a permanent fix and that the problem would eventually return and since a rocking seat is not a safety issue, they wanted to wait for the part and only deal with this once. We'll see.
Can't wait to hear what the perm. fix part number is. I don't mind rocking when I am reading all the happenings here, but I really don't care to be rocking while I'm driving. :yesnod:
I had the driver's seat rail replaced in Dec. '00 and again in Sept. '01. In each case, the same part was replaced: 12455535. I have a '99 hardtop and although the seats are power adjustable, they do not have any "memory adjust" like some other models. I'm the only driver of my car and the seats never move. Nonetheless, I've worn out the seat tracks twice.
I recently noticed how I get out of the car. I lean back in the seat and push off the outside seat bolster to stand up. I can only imagine the seat withstands a lot of torques that probably expedite the wearing of the seat. It would have been hard for GM to see this problem coming because the part probably works fine in the other GM cars that don't require similar gymnastics to exit.
