Default Quarter mile numbers?

Let me first say, I am not a racer. I have (when I was a kid) made runs on a bike way back when. I am haveing some work done to the car. My car is in the shop, right now, getting heads, cam, long tubes, ls6 intake, 342 gears, ported TB I think that is all.
Cam specs are:
Duration 273 277
Duration at .050 220 224
Gross Lift .557 .578
Lobe Separation 112

Stage 2 heads & I think 59cc chambers. Since you are the expert, what kinda numbers should I get with that set up? OH, Dyno tune also.....da...
Tuner says I should get 435-460 rwhp.

What kind of numbers should I expect in the quarter? Kuhmo street tires. I have a friend with a 03 Z06 & I think I might be able to take him when I am done.
Thanks.

Hi travelingypsye -

I am assuming your short block is stock 348, and if so, that is a pretty optimistic RWHP estimate. Of course a different head/cam and tuner might make the numbers you mention a reality.

I have a local friend who had a 2002 coupe with headers, head/cam, 6 speed (that means 3.42s) etc. He was certain that those mods would put him out in front of my headers/CAI 2002 Z06.

He was mistaken.

His RWHP was right around 400 if I remember correctly.

He later built a 406 with head/cam etc....and that engine "only" made around 460 rwhp as a comparison.

The bottom line is almost always driver - I have run a few cars that on paper should have beaten me at the drag strip.

Problem is, at the drag strip you launch your car on pavement and vht, not paper.

Good luck - and post your numbers when you go have some fun with your upgraded ride!

best regards -

I agree with you about both the hp I should get & the driving at the track.
The reason I believe him is after he tuned my STOCK 99 A-4, the dyno # were:
336.0 RWHP@5300rpm & 361.3 RWTQ@ 3800 rpm. I asked how a stock 99 with 345 at the crank could do that. I was told, 80% will, 10% less & 10% more. I am lucky with the 10% more. Either that or someone has been in the engine. No one has so,,,,,,,,

Hi travelingypsye -

You will have some fun with that beauty at the strip!

I have never run my wifes 99 A4 coupe at the strip, but I want to see how much different it is to launch etc.

best regards -

travelingypsye,

Since you are having 3.42s installed, you must have an A4. I have an A4 which i have taken to the track a few times. At the time I had 3.42s, LT headers and Hi-flow cats, a vararam and tuning. With a 2.0 60' on street tires, I ran 12.6 1/4 several times and a 12.75 was a slow run for me. You didn't mention a stall converter, so I assume you will have a stock converter. Hard to say what you will run, you should have enough power for 11s but stock converter may hold you back. A4 is point and shoot, mainly you want to launch around 1/2 throttle and then floor it over the course of a second or so. Otherwise you will spin and get a lousy 1/4 mile time. I usually applied the brake and applied enough throttle to load the drivetrain before launching. I recently had a cam installed and am looking fwd to getting back to the track. Should be in low 12s with the street tires. Good luck.
