Default Bellhousing bolts to engine question

97 Vette
Pulling engine from the top with heads on. Any tips on how to remove those bolts as they hold the wiring harnes's ?

It looks like the engine needs to drop down, but how much is ok?

Hi voda1 -

All of the times I have removed these bolts, I was removing the torque tube, so I had the drivetrain pivoted down (in the rear) to gain access.

The limit of travel is determined at the firewall where the heads and or rear of the intake manifold will contact the firewall if the drivetrain is levered downward too far.

At the minimum , you need to remove the tunnel plate.

Without lowering the rear of the drivetrain, it MAY be possible to use long extensions and a swivel socket - but that is speculation.

Good luck!

best regards -

Best way is to remove the intake manifold.

Remove the differential, TT and Tranny.

Use a shorty 13MM swivel socket and a couple of long extensions.

Whatever you do, don't use a air gun on the cross -member bolts.

I took the motor out and back in with the bellhousing on. I think I used a long screwdriver and/or long pick with 90 degree tip to open up the connectors instead of removing the bolts. Or as mentioned before you can reach up there with a long extension and a swivel socket.

You have to lower the cradle to get the motor out....

Loosen the front cradle bolts almost all the way and remove the rear ones and you should have enough room to get an extension and swivel socket up there to get 'em out.

If you have the steering rack out you should have enough clearance to leave the bell housing on
