Default exhaust temp

hey guys, quick question. I searched, and everybody knows how awesome the new search is, and found nothing.

What temp does the exhaust get AFTER the cats. I'm looking into other materials than mild steel or aluminum that will be able to hold the heat. If it's under 500 degrees, I may have some great stuff being built.

TTT, come on guys, I know somebody knows this off the top of their heads.

If nobody knows, can they point me in the right direction to look. I have no problem looking for it on my own.

I guess the next step is to contact someone like LG and ask them b/c they make headers and such, so they would know engineering stuff.

The temp after cat can vary by how far behind cat you are testing and also idle versus WOT. You will certainly be well above 500 degrees at WOT.

Fairly easy to find out if you're diving deeply into a project that you need the info for. I installed an exhaust temp sensor while I was doing my WBO2 installation by adding a bung at the same time. You can do something similar behind the cats or temporarily affix a sensor there to monitor temps while you're driving.

Here are a few pics of my install in my passenger-side header. I found this Model 114653 1/4" Street Probe kit on Stewart-Warner's web site. It comes with it's own adapters and mounting hardware.

A close-up of the probe. The thermocouple itself is a K-type and can be ordered with an optional gauge.

I had the bungs welded in at a local performance exhaust shop. I gave careful instructions because the position and angle of the sensors was critical if they were to fit into the confined spaces around the header. The temp sensor is on the right in the pic below.

A worm's eyeview of the EGT probe protruding from the header. You can see the shielded harness leading up towards the cabin.

I had the temp gauge temporarily hooked up in the cabin as I was hooking the outputs to EFILive to monitor temps through the sw.
