I just pulled the trans on my 98 today, to replace a possible bent shift fork and syncros. I figured the car has near 100k on it should I replace the clutch also? and when replacing the clutch should I change the flywheel or is it okay to leave the stock one without resurfacing it? Anyway where can I get a deal on a decent clutch. The car is stock and I gont have any real big plans for the future?
Since you've got the tranny out anyway, I'd go ahead and replace the clutch on general principle. Chances are that it would need replacing down the line anyway and hopefully your problem with the shift fork is not going to repeat itself any time soon. There are a number of great vendors here who are forum sponsors - - any number of them could get you great prices on the parts.
If you are contemplating having the flywheel resurfaced, only have the work done by a reputable shop you know and trust. Additionally, you'll want to have the flywheel balanced once it's been resurfaced. While you're at it, replace the throwout and pilot bearings, or you're asking for other problems and premature (new) clutch failure. Depending on your driving habits, you might want to consider any of the number of performance or heavy-duty kits out there.
