Default Mild cam recomendations ?

Looking to retain my excellent gas mileage , but looking for that extra power that only a cam can provide.
Currently have LG longtube streets , x-pipe . high flow cats , Corsa Pace car exhaust , with Vararam intake.
Any recomendations for a mild cam ?

I asked Texas Speed this once, and they thought staying around (or 'smalller') than their 228/228 Comp XER offering did not adversly affect gas mileage when tuned properly.
The 224/224 range cams (from various sources) are very popular and have been met with good results.
With LG headers I might recommend something around 224/228 on a 114 LSA.
A truly MILD cam worth the effort would be in the very low 220s, but below that you are getting close to Z06 cam specs (not worth the effort).

I agree with 500hp. The above is a great combo. I presently have that setup and am very happy with it. Still get 28-30mpg on a trip.

I have a 214/220/118 baby cam that puts down 412 RWHP with AFR Heads. The car gets 31 MPG on a trip and idles as smooth as it did with the stock cam.

The AFR LS1 cam (p/n 6016) is similar (but not identical) to the DTE custom grind cam that I have. I mention that because DTE does not sell the cam by itself (at least a few years ago).

The cam is very mild but the rwhp increased significantly and my gas mileage increased as well, even though I went to lower gears (3:15 to 3:42). Some of that is probably due to the tune (Phil does an awesome job), but seeing some of Tony Mamo's posts and knowing that it is similar I know rocks, I would have to believe that this cam would do the job for you.

Here's the dyno:

Tuned properly, any cam will retain your gas mileage, as long as you keep your foot out of it. Remember, closed loop fueling (anything other then WOT) is 14.63 no matter what size cam you have. The trick is to have it tuned properly so it always runs at 14.63, unfortunately alot of "tuned" cars do not.

The only downside to a big cam for mileage in my experience, is the extra pedal it takes to get the huge cams moving from a stop if stock gear ratio is retained.

I have an MS3 (240'ish duration 609 lift) in my personal C5 with 4.10 gears and I still average 20+ with a mix of highway and city driving with a few "jack rabbit start's" thrown in for good measure (28-29 highway).
