so last night when i turned off my lights they both went down fine, but he left one was making a clicking noise for a few seconds after it was down. have tried it a few times since then and it goes up and down fine, just makes that clicking noise aftef they stow. should i go ahead and get the brass gear kit, or is my problem a limit switch or something.
Your problem is a stripped gear. Put in the brass gear.
You are hearing a machine gun like sound, it is the gear stripping.
No limit switches, the headlight module senses the rise in current when the headlights hit the stops (either up or down) and cuts the power. When your gear strips, there is no current spike, so the headlight module "times" out to turn off the power.

Yes, it sounds like the gear is partially stripped and a few more open/close cycles will kill it for good. The brass gear kit is not a difficult job at all.
