Not sure about the price but isn't it something like $60 or more for those two little tubes? That is a crazy price, are they titanium or something? Has anyone had an exhaust shop just weld in some aluminized tubes instead? I bet the tubing would only cost about $10-$15.
Correct me if im wrong here, any comments thoughts?
The guy is entitled to make a buck......... Go ahead and try to have a shop do it.....trial and error till
it ALMOST fits.........
Betcha you end up with twice the price...........and half the result. :smash: :smash:
Re: A&A mod seems like a rip off... (steve badalamenti)
Betcha I don't. I'm planning on putting two exhaust cutouts in place of the flat part right after they come over the axle. They will probably sound better than the AA mod too, and can be capped off when I get sick of it.
I went to a local muffler shop here in DFW area and the guy there used to install Corsa systems regularly. He told me he could use spare pipes off of broken systems he had laying around and did it in about 30 mins. Only charged me 50.00 and it did make a noticeable note difference. I liked it for a while until I heard the Corsa systems and went with the indy system w/pro tips..I love em!! Same guy did the install for only 80.00 w/x-pipe install as well! :yesnod: Good luck on your decision! :seeya

I did just what you suggested. Works fine, no problems so far. Had a local body shop do it. They do some pretty exotic restorations. Had a GT-40 in when mine was done. They were going over it for a vintage racer. In their lobby sits a complete, ready to go NASCAR SOHC 427 from the late '60s. Just waiting for the right project, I guess.

Don't count other peoples money. It's not a bad price considering he did all the work in testing and fitting and re testing and re fitting. Finding the pieces and having them cut at the proper angles. Directions for Idiots printed up and packages for shipping.
Basicaly you're saying his TIME & EFFORT are worth nothing. If it works good and saves you $750 because you didn't buy an entire system, then it's worth twice what he charges. It's not like he's charging $250 or more, it's under $100. Give the guy a break. :) :seeya
A factory had a multi million-dollar manufacturing line that stopped running. The in-house factory maintenance crew tried for several hours but could not get the line back up and running. The owner had no choice but to call in a well-known and very expensive consultant to get the line going again. The consultant arrived the next day and inspected the line for a short time. He then took some small tools from his kit and made a slight adjustment. He went up to the production office and instructed the foreman to start it up. The line came up immediately and ran flawlessly.
The owner was thrilled with the consultant's performance until he received the bill a few days later. The invoice consisted of one line item:
The owner was furious and called the consultant. He asked the consultant how he could possibly charge that much for less than one days work! The consultant pointed out to the owner that $100K was less than the owner would loose for each day the plant was down but that still did not satisfy him. The owner then demanded an itemized breakdown of the consultant’s charges.
The consultant complied with a new invoice:
ADJUST XYZ MANUFACTURING LINE……….$25.00
KNOWING WHAT TO ADJUST…………..…$99,975.00
The moral is that knowledge and the time spent to gain it are valuable. I have seen the several sets of C5 mufflers Andy cut up and modified to come up with the optimum size and position for his bypass. What you are paying for is his R&D time to figure it out. If you were to try it yourself and get it wrong just once it would cost much more than A&A charges. I could have copied A&A’s tubes and saved a few bucks, but I chose to buy them from A&A out of respect for Andy’s invention.
A side note about your story of the expensive machine breaking down. I heard the same story years ago (the root story may be made up and has surfaced many times with different twists). A large electric generator broke down at a local power generating plant and Thomas Edison was called out to fix it. The story goes on like you related it. I liked this rendition since it sounds plausible and Thomas Edison was known for his quick wit. BTW, the charge then was $10,000. Guess inflation has even affected this story!

Yeah, I even modified the original version I heard to minor adjustment from a hammer tap. It seemed to me that hitting something with a hammer was just too crude for the C5 Technical crowd!

I thought it was worth it. $60 for the parts and $50 to install. I went to a few shops around here asking if they could do this themseles and they all said it would cost about $100. $10 more for the piece of mind that it goes in right the first time....which it did....I'm happy with the mod

It´s a good mod (was a good idea) and they want to earn money with that.
I don´t think it´s pricey and it fits without porblems.
If you don´t want to spend that money you don´t need to buy from them.
There is an old saying that "you get what you pay for" but what also goes with that is "but sometimes you get more for than what you paid". I have the A&A mod and love it. It cost me right $100 dollars installed, gives me a great sound, saved me several hundred dollars over a cat-back system and gave me alot more horsepower. I great cat-back is good for at best they say about 5 horsepower where the A&A does not give you any probably. However, with the 7 or 8 hundred dollar I saved I bought me a Blackwing(15 to 20 horsepower maybe) for $215 leaving me still 5 to 6 hundred more to spend on whatever. So far the A&A mod has given at least three times the power that the cat-back would have given me. The mod does what is says it does and even how it does it. I vote for it.
