Default Suspension Upgrade, what you think?

What do you guys think of this upgrade? I have a 2002 coupe with base suspension, wanna go to: Bilstein Sport Shocks (Z51) front and rear, BMR sway bars (32mm front, 19mm rear) and keep stock monoleaf. Car is already lowered on stock bolts (1-1 1/4in). I have stock size non-runflats in front and 285/40 555Nitto 18's in rear.

I just went to gene cully and bought c6 z06 shocks and c5 z06 sway bars. Total was under 6 hundred and the difference was immeasurable, except in happiness.

Is the BMR the solid one?

I'd look at www.pfadtracing.com They have some nice sport bars. Or Hotchkis. Still, I'm sure you will be happy with what you have selected. But it doesn't hurt to look some more.

I did Hotchkis bars, they did help. But, the improvement in ride from the C6 Z06 shocks was a shock so to speak.

I'd keep your spring, only change it when you NEED to IMO.

Wow, so the C6Z06 shocks fit a C5? How much they go for? Gotta look into that. Ive looked at the Hotchkins too but I just fell for the Mid America setup. Its there own setup made by ADDCO with a lifetime warranty and the front is 35mm and the rear is 25.4mm, thats huge. Its a road race setup and its going for $440 frnt + rear. Its a chromoly tubular construction, they look pretty beefy.

Here's an off the wall suggestion for a suspension upgrade, once you've got the bits and pieces installed.

Raise your car about a half-inch. That'll get the suspension working in the center of its operating range again.

Make sure you've got the rake pretty close (about a half-inch higher at the rear cross member vs. the front cross member), and get an alignment done.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

They have the C6 Z06 shocks and even the C6 z51 bars, both of which work on the C5 and are very cheap.

I would be a little concerned with the heim jointed end links, they can be very noisy. A loud knock when turning when the heim joint slips. They may be OK, but hard to tell. Hotchkis re-worked theirs and is suppose to be quieter, but I just went with the GM metal end links, no noise.

Something seems off with those BMR bar sizes. 32mm vs 19mm is too big a spread. Typical sizes should be around 32mm vs 26mm or so unless one of the bars is hollow or completely different than a stock style or something like that. I think stock is 19mm on the rear.

As already posted, the C6Z06 shocks and C5Z51 bars are a good choice that won't disappoint and they're as cheap an upgrade as you can get buying new parts.

My suggestion (this is what I did to mine):

- C6 Z06 shocks
- C6 Z51 sway bars with GM metal end links
- C6 tunnel plate

Total cost about $500 with shipping from GM Parts House.

WOW - that's all I can say !!
