DIYer vs. Being a Novice
2. Checked codes and I had a ton of history codes but the only current codes were:
P0161 Heated Oxygen Sensor Passenger Side Rear
B2527 Horn Relay Circuit
Can I attribute these two codes as being the culprits in paragraph 1?
3. Checked with my local dealer and was told that I need a BCM if I got a B2527. Your thoughts?
4. I checked and cleaned the grounds as indicated in other posts. Check fuses as well. Did a visual inspection on Horn micro relay 36 but obviously couldn't tell anything.
5. I've found the replacement parts (02 sensor and BCM) from forum vendor. The dealership wanted almost $700 in parts,
6. My real question is: can a novice with limited skills replace the 02 sensor and BCM?
Get a manual and trace the horn circuit and see if the horn(s) are actually connected. Maybe get +12 directly to the horn and see if it works.
It is not too bad to change the O2 sensors. The biggest problem is getting the Vette high enough to work on it safely. I'd suggest getting a set of 4 6-ton jack stands, because the base is large and are more stable than lower rated stands. The next issue on the rear O2's is the wire routing, which can be confusing and a PIA as the wire is held up by some clips that are pretty strong. But, yes it can be done by someone with limited experience as long as they research it and have a good idea of what to do.
Would the rear O2 sensor or the B2527 cause the reduced engine power? I really don't think so, but I'm no expert. I’d think that another history code actually points to the reduced engine power.
I think Dougbfresh has the correct info on the BCM, it may be a dealer only thing.
However, I would suggest fixing the O2 and the relay and then clear the codes and monitor them to see what comes back if you get the reduced engine power again. The code that really affects the reduced engine power could go to history pretty quickly, like the next time you turn the key on or off. So, clearing all the codes will give a better
idea of what is happening with your Vette, as you can tell which history codes are recent.
I highly doubt your BCM needs replacing due to a bad horn circuit. I suggest you find a better dealer.
Also try posting this again and changing your title to something that will grab more attention, like: BCM trouble, need help!
Also...consider replacing these in sets if they are cheap enough for you.
You have a total of 4, one upstream and one downstream per pipe. They work as a team side to side respectively to deliver the o2 content before and after it runs through your cats. Definitely a good idea to do both at once, sort of like shocks.....
