Default Powdercoat or paint?

Hey guys, Im getting some chrome rims soon forfree. I want to make them black and was wondering which process is better and longer lasting, powdercoating or paint? Thnx.

Powdercoat no question. The chrome needs media blasted to ensure proper adhesion....

I heard powdercoating loses its luster with time and heat. True? Anyone with powdercoated or painted rims?

I just got a set of stock wagon wheels powdercoated. They look great!!! I have been told to that you can possibly wax them to protect them from the weather. Powder coating is really though too, paint will chip way easier. They will need blasted but the shop i used blasted them for me. Got it done for $75 bucks a wheel.

When you have powder-coat color put on then have them do a powder clear. This makes the finish even tougher, easier to clean & prevents that chalkiness from eventually appearing. The cost should be minor as no additional prep is required.

Funny you post this, I just finished powdercoating my front two thin spoke 17" rims today!

I haven't cleared them yet, wondering if I should (I don't have powder clear in stock).

This was done with a simple electric household oven and eastwood hotcoat gun and gloss black powder. The reason they look silver/blue is because they're so reflective that you actually see the sky and other background things in the rim.

guys...i have a ton of stuff powder coated under the hood (CorvettePilot) did it and it has held up flawlessly without dulling, chipping...nothing! It still looks perfect and as anyone knows my car can attest...it gets really hot under my hood so i would not see where the pc on the wheels would get hotter. My concern would be more the corrosive nature of brake dust, not the heat.

Powder coating will far outlast just plain paint.

Have been running powdercoated rims for over a year. Clean them and apply a coat of wax once in a while and they stay perfect.

Nice wheels in those pics guys!

I heard some wax on the powdercoat once in a while helps. Guess its true, huh? I already use Wax-as-u-dry from Turtle Wax everytime I wash the car and it seems to work good on regular car paint. Guess its the uv rays that hurts them a little.
