Hopefully someone can answer my question. I was wondering if there is some sort of history saved in the computer? Say if there is a warning on the display and it gets cleared. Is there any reminisce of it lingering...Is there a way to see a list of all the things that have occured? this is on a 97 vette
No. Once a CEL is cleared (or any codes for that matter)-they all get nuked. Even the I/M tests for things like Catalyst/O2/Evap systems are cleared and have to be run again to pass any emission testing.
Have you run the On Board Diagnostics to see if the code is still present on the car as a History Code? If it is somebody with a Tech 2 may be able to look at some of the failure parameters that are stored in memory but not available through the DIC.
Well in a nutshell the reason why im asking about this is because when I purchased my car, the Service Column Lock on the display was on for the recall. The dealer assured me it would be serviced while I was doing the paperwork. I took it home and the light was off. recently I bought it back to an old dealer I bought my last car from for servicing and they told me there was the recall on it. So basically the dealer I purchased from just cleared the code and never did any work.
I hope you rad this post in time. You don't know how lucky you are. The recalls are NOT foolproof. You can still have problems with your car even if the recalls have been done. Instead, get the column lock bypass kit asap and install it instead. They are cheap and cheap insurance, too. Once one is installed you do not have to worry about your engine being put into reduced power mode or having your column lockup. This providing your car has not had any of the recalls done. If it has, forget everything I said. The CLB won't work.
