I own a 2001 Camaro SS 6 speed. I was in search of a C5 when I went to the dealer.. I test drove several before test driving a SS. The Vette I test drove was listed at 51k.. I purchased the SS for 29k.. I might not get the looks that a vette would get me, but it is sure great to pull up next to a vette knowing that you are just as fast and still have that 21k in your pocket.. I have since then modded the SS. So far I have put 5k into the car and that is including suspension.. I am at 390rwhp/380rwtq.. The 5.3L heads go on this weekend.. The heads are massages quite well.. Looking to see around 420 to the wheels....
390rwhp how did you add say 90rwhp with stock heads are you sure this is rwhp or fwhp please explain very interested in your set up, And a total of 120rwhp when you put heads on is impressive, usually from what I see around here is about 60 to 70hp tops with heads, cam, intake work, exhaust ex.

Test drive both of them and make a decision on that.
You cant go wrong with both cars. Good luck on your decision.

Vette + stall converter = 12 second car
Camaro SS + stall converter = 11-12 second car :)

Thanks for all the responses, it was good hearing especialy from people who have experience with each. The SS is alot more affordable so im leaning towards that just because i dont really have an income, i am headed of to med. school next year but had a store of savings that i have been working on for 6 years now. So its looking like a smarter choice to buy the 21k SS and still have 12 or 13k for repairs, insurance etc. But yes i guess ill have to wait a few years for the C5 unless a really good deal comes along. Thanks agian i appreciate it! great forum by the way!! mike

One more comment. I'd bet the C5 had the 2.73 gears, not the 3.15. Makes a big off the line difference.

Even more with 3.42s like mine :)

More food for thought... if you need to sell the car a year from now due to college costs, you'll get less depreciation on the Vette than the SS. Good luck with your decision!
