My shifter boot "leather" is near solid from age and I figured I'll pick up a new one. My only issue is the plastic ring that holds it in place is also cracked in a few spots and won't stay in the console.
Where can I get both of these pieces for replacement? I have a C6 shift *** if that helps things along.

If I remember correclty, you can't get the ring by itself but I think it comes with the shift boot if you order from GM. I don't think Vette Essentials has the ring and I'm pretty sure that Redline Goods doesn't either.
I was able to do a "fix" on the ring myself. Bought a round pvc or gutter pipe fitting from Home Depot and cut it down to about an inch high all the way around. Then I cut split it at one end to be able to reshape it to an oval size like the center console opening. I then used small sheetmetal screws to attach the broken plastic stock shifter boot ring to the outside of the new piece. That gives it the stability it needs to hold in place in the center console.
I did this fix and then attached my RedLine Goods shift boot to it. Has held up great for over a year.
Mine was cracked too. Temp fixed it with super-glue, but it didn't hold long. I wasn't able to fine one online at the various parts houses, but I never contacted Gene Culley at GMPartsHouse (forum vendor), as everything isn't listed in the online catalog, so you might give him a call. I gave away the car to my son this last May so now its up to him to find one, but if you do, please tell us where you get it from.

I may give this a whirl as well. Simple shopping list and if I mess up it's not a whole lot of an investment.
Thanks for the ideas. I will post up what I find out.
How hard is it to replace a boot? My 2000 A4 boot is basically hard like you said yours it. I don't know anything about replacing stuff like this though.
