Front Brake Rotor corossion
My 01 Z06 sat for the past couple weeks outside (during hannah in myrtle beach). It was covered. Took the cover off yesterday and noticed the rotors were especially rusted. I washed and shined the wheels up, and went for a spin to dust off the rotors. When I backed out there was a loud "crack" from the front pass wheel. As I backed out a clunk sound continued. Upon inspection I noticed a large welt on the face of the discs... each time the welt passes by the caliper/pads, the noise is made.
Has anyone else seen this. Can I drive it and wear it down, or am I looking at disc/pad replacement?

You have some small corrosion on the rotor where the pad was sitting. It is common in rain / long time storage situations. Take the car out and make a number of hard stops from 60 or so and it should remove the deposit. You can also take some very fine emory paper - 1000 grit or finer and burnish the surface of the rotor on both sides to get rid of the material. Easier to do the sandpaper job if you remove the wheels since you have to do both sides of the rotor.

I drove it with some hard braking from 60..., it was gone in minutes. I didnt want to make matters worse. Thanks for your help on this (both replies). This forum is great.
