About half the time that I turn on my headlights on my 02 the left light won't come up. After 2 or 3 tries it comes up. There doesn't seem to be anything to lube and I don't hear the headlight raising motor laboring. Any ideas for a cure? I don't want to get caught some dark night without my left headlight.

It's most likely the headlight actuator. The gear is partially stripped, and when the drive gear hits the stripped portion, the headlight will not come up. I had the same thing on my 03' for over a year. Just replaced the actuator last week under my extended warranty. You can save money by buying a brass gear and rebuilding the actuator gearbox.

Thanks Bill. I can get the actuator rebuild kits with a bronze gear for under $50 each so I guess I'll get two and solve the current problem and prevent a future problem.

You're having the same problem that cropped up on my '00 last week. The right headlight actuator "can't get it up". But here's my question: do your headlights come up on the first click (parking lights only)? Mine do. They're not supposed to come up with just the driving/parking lights. One of the other Forum members offered the opinion that the electrical imbalance caused by the right light being broken causes the BCM to act funky. I checked my Helms manual and can't find any mention of this.
