I just got new rear tires put on. There the original size. After a short drive, my AH came on then went off. It did this about 4 times in about a mile. I live only a mile and a half from work, so no real miles put on it yet. What has caused this?
Thanks,
Matt
Not sure what you mean the AH came on and then went off. Was it an Active Handling Active message, Traction Control Active message, or did you get a Service AH or Traction Control message?
You need to be specific in your terms and state exactly what happened and what was shown on the DIC.
It would be a very unusual case if Active handling was triggered by the tires but Traction Control is often triggered by tire issues.
The new tires are probably just a coincidence (assuming you replaced them with a compatable size). My car started throwing Active Handling Acitve messages in the DIC. It turned out to be the Steering Wheel Position Sensor went bad. This failure seems fairly common in the C5 section. When this happens, do you feel the break pedal pulsate VERY fast (faster than ABS engagement)?
In case you ask later, the sensor is ~$80 and the labor was ~$240.
the dic showed "active handling active". when this came on it felt like the car lost power. very much like when the brakes came on briefly.
It was braking then, that is how it works. When AH engages it alternates applying the front brakes very rapidly. The system may also disable the AH and TCS when it happens. Whenever it happened to my car it would post codes C1287 and C1288.
I think he's talking about the gooey compound to keep the tires from sticking in their molds possibly causing the tires to not stick to the pavement. For the record, I don't agree.
