Default Total Noob Brake Question....

I inherited by Dad's Corvette when he died this past June. It has the stock rotors and stock gray calipers on front and back. My Dad seemed to be doing Z06 style upgrades, like Borla stingers, z06 chrome wheels, so I was wondering what you guys would suggest to upgrade the rotors and calipers?

I would really like some slotted and drilled ones, the best of the best, and I guess the calipers would be the Z06 red ones, yes? Any advice on what to get (brand names, websites) would be awesome. Also, if any one knows what a fair price would be to install them all, please give me a ball park. I don't plan to do this right away, but probably next Spring... I would like to start doing my research and saving my money now!

Default Take your time

The red Z 06 calipers are the same as the other C/5's. They are just painted red. Alot of folks went w/ the larger C/6 calipers, front and rears. That in my opinion would be a great caliper mod improvement. Do a little research in previous back posts in this regards. Doing your research will save you time and money in the long run. This way you can see the pro's and con's of other members doing similar mods. Good luck.

I sure will. I had no idea c6 calipers would even fit! I saw a set at southern car parts for 6,000 bucks--rotors and calpiers, the whole nine. Gosh, I hope it's not that much! I could buy a used Yugo for that much, LOL... remember those?

And this is not a real difficult DIY project. (Although it does take a little grunt to get the caliper bolts loose) Get some beer and a friend or two and it's done in a couple of hours give or take. (depending on the amount of beer consumption):c heers:

Just to clarify,
There is zero difference between C6 calipers and C5 calipers. None. They are the same PBR caliper and use the same pads. C6Z06 calipers are a completely different beast and expensive. The only difference between C5/C6 and C5Z06 calipers are the color (powder coated red). As suggested, you can paint you existing calipers for a great look, and it would only cost you around $10-20. Did this mod myself.

When people talk about upgrading to C6 brakes, they are refering to replacing the rotor which is 1" larger in diameter. You actually keep the same caliper, just replace the rotor and the caliper mounting bracket. Once again, very easy swap. However.........I think you may need a larger diameter wheel to get things to fit. Do a seach here, plenty of posts about people upgrading to C6 brakes.

Sorry to hear about you father and welcome to the corvette world. Now, deactivate your membership here. Otherwise, you get LOTS of ideas, lots of smiles, and a smaller wallet.
