Default DIY help

I replace the fluid in my six speed. I used a suction tool. Is there something better. Perhaps its just the tool I am using but it is messy, leaks, and does not hold much fluid.

You should be able to pull the drain plug and just drain it. As far as putting the fluid back in I would suggest a small hand pump. You can find these at auto zone or I have even seen at wally world. fill till it starts to come out of the fill plug, must be level btw.

Good luck

Could try using the drain plug.

Many years ago, a friend decided to change the oil in his car. When he got done, he had 10 quarts of oil in the engine and the transmission was empty.

The point is to make sure you are removing the right plug. If you look on the opposite side of the transmission (passenger side), you'll see the drain plug near the bottom of the side of the case near where it's bolted to the differential. The differential drain plug is on the very bottom of the differential.

Good luck.

Hi KeyWestJack -

AS others have indicated - the trans has a drain so there is no need to use suction to remove the trans fluid.

Here are pictures of the trans and changing the fluid -

You got me on that one. I should have explained more. I drained the fluid but wanted to have a method of replacement other than a suction tool.

I use a little hand pump that screws onto a 1 quart bottle. It's slow but works ok.
