Default E-85

Considering on doing it. My Vette is not a daily driver so I really dont care about the loss in mpg. Ive read a lot of dues and donts. But my question is what needs to be done to convert it over to E-85? Fuel Pump? Fuel Injectors? run hard lines? not sure, during my research never found what I need. My tuner wants to do it and I have a a hook up on dyno time too. So Im not spending a lot of money on the tune. So if the results arent good, it will not be nothing to change back to 93.
Thanks for any information!

Basically you have to dump 30% more fuel into the motor than you do with gasoline. So, your entire fuel system needs to support 30% more fuel flow than it does now. That usually means upgrading the pump and injectors at a minimum.

There was a feature article in one of the Corvette magazines a few months ago about two friends who both converted to E85. Their cars were quite impressive.
Before I'd make any commitments though, I'd want to confirm there is an E85 availability in the immediate vicinity.
I wanted to buy an E85 Silverado last year until I found out there are absolutely no E85 stations anywhere in the area...

A word of caution here. In order to take full advantage of E-85 you really need to make a significant increase in compression ratio!! If you don't, you are leaving a lot of performance on the table, and kind of wasting your time without it IMO!!

OK, what kind of compression you talkin?

I have 2 stations that are both less than a mile away that have E-85, so no concerns there.

Thanks for the info and any more would be good!

So what to do about this? Add FI system to bump compression to compliment the 30 % increased fuel distribution system capability?

FI cheaper than engine tear down an piston / head replacement?

I also believe alot of the rubber components in the fuel system degrade rather quickly when exposed to ethanol.

E85 switch is as simple as a reprogram. Andy at DynotuneUSA.com does it all the time. I know quite a few people who are running on E85. With Andy's tune you can run the gas tank down to a low level and fill it with premium if you have to. He recommends going with either a full tank of E85 or a full tank of Premium but you don't have to stick strictly with one or the other.

Yep,a supercharger or turbo would really help boost the cylinder pressure,,which would in effect raise the compression. Otherwise I'd say about 11 or 12 to 1 CR would be needed to take full advantage of E-85.

I ran a tank which was a mix of about 60% regular 87 octane and 40% E-85. Car ran fine, with only slightly lower mileage. seems like there would be no problem to run 50/50 mix or higher with nothing more than a computer re-tune.

good question I guess I could mix it to get me by. or install a switch that I can run on E-85 on one map and 93 on an other. I dont plan on taking a long trip for any reason, at least for a long time, I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old, it would be kinda hard to fit them all in the vette!
