Default First Post-new member--what mods?

Hi everyone. What a great forum this is. I can't tell you how happy I am to be part of the C5 family. I am flying to Ohio on the 19th to pick up a MY 2001 6-speed coupe w/ 6k miles. I CAN'T WAIT!!!
After selling my 98 SS Camaro (heads/cam) last month, I found a great deal on this C5. My father had 3 vettes in the past (73, 79, 91), so I have always loved the corvette name. Now it's my turn to enjoy the Vette.
What are the best inital mods? I want to stay away from heads/ cam for atleast a year. I am looking towards cold-air pkgs., exhaust, headers, etc.
Is there a set-up that works REAL GOOD for the 01's.?
Let me know. I am trying to limit mods to $2500 for now.
Thanks

WOW ! How exciting for you...Enjoy the ride:D

First of all you need to get rid of the stock airbox..Think BPP Vortex..$499+20+h.p.
Second..Trash the exhaust system and get a good set of Corsa's,Bassani,B&B etc. I chose The Corsa Indy's...$800..10-12 h.p.
After that it's pure preference..I know most of the fellas with 6-speeds like the cags 1-4 eliminator..good choice. If you got the bread The TPIS headers and a x-pipe will finish the exhaust..$1200...15-20h.p and some torque too.

It's your car now,but getting it to breath now will be a first concern I would think. The 2001 has the improved intale manifold and already has a better MAF so you got a head start.A new set of NGK 55 plugs and some Taylor 8mm wires couldn't hurt and cheap enough mod to do yourself.Enjoy!!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new ride. First mods are usually the best bang for the buck mods. Air intake and headers along with a ripper were mine and I don't regret any of them.

Air Intake, New Exhaust, Ripper Shifter, then maybe headers.

On a 6speed, this is the route I would go for added performance...

Vortex Rammer Cold Air Intake....~$225
Vortex Power Duct........................~$250
Corsa Indy or B&B PRT Exhaust...~$825
B&M Ripper Shifter........................~$189
TTS Long Tube Headers................~$115

After this, your next biggest gains would be with a heads/cam package.

If you have any questions or are interested in exact pricing, drop me an email.

Guys, thanks for all of the quick replies. Believe me, I can't wait til the 19th. It can't come soon enough. Matt G (Exit 28 Mtspts), I'll email you as soon as I get the car back to Maryland.
Quick question: What are most stock 01 6-speed C5's ruuning in the 1/4?
My 98 SS did a 13.2 @ 107.4. I want to run it stock before doing the mods.
Once again, thanks for your help.

The AIR Box seems to be the first one that most get. I know you mentioned a $2500 budget but just so that you know, there are a couple of Supercharger options for the C5 that were just announced - ranging from $4500 - $5500. Now you will need a different freer-flowing exhaust for an SC so you may as well get one (CORSA, PRT's,whatever) now anyway.

But If Superchargers for some reason excite you, keep, your eyes open 'cause there are a number of forum members who have purchased these SC's and are in fact having them installed as we speak. Soon they will be revealing their numbers.

Have fun - lots of knowledgeable and willing people on this forum
