Are timken ok to use? What other parts are needed for a replacement?
Here is my situation if i give a sharp jab turn to the left on the steering wheel the noise i hear goes away. What side of the car would this point to as far as the bearing having an issue?
timken are great bearings, if i remember correctly the left bearing would be your problem because when you turn left it unloads the bearing and your problem goes away. you dont need anything else to change the bearing, you need to pull the lower balljoint from the knuckel to get at the lower of the three bolts for the bearing assy. it is an easy job onece you get to doing it.
they shouldnt go bad by themselves but if you hit a large pothole or something like that it would cause the bearing to bournell(SP) causing a flat spot and ultimately creating your problem. i am far from an expert but i went through this on my car chasing a problem created by the former owner of my car when he bumped a curb
