Little problem following directions. In the tech tips section of the forum it says to "The piece on the Blackwing needs to be removed and the larger coupler needs to go in its place for a 2001 like the next shot. I zoomed in to show the larger coupler on the next one." On the instructions that came with the blackwing it says to attach the silicone coupler to the blackwing with the ring that connected the factory box to the maf, then use supplied ring and connect the silicone coupler to the maf. Which set of directions is right? Do I need to remove a piece from the blackwing? or just follow the directions included with the blackwing.
Thanks :seeya

Re: 01 Blackwing Install w/silicone coupler (Black01Coupe)
The same thing confused me when I added mine 2 months ago. You have to remove the piece that comes on the Blackwing and add that other cylinder looking piece instead. I'll look to see if I have a pic. It is actually very simple looking back on it, but it didn't seem like it at the time. :seeya

Here's a pic, sorry it's not the best:

The important thing is you only need the one black piece - the one that comes tightly wrapped. The small on on the blackwing comes off. I remember it was a tight fit over the MAF. If you haven't figured it out I'll try and take some better pics in the daylight tomorrow. Good luck.

Re: 01 Blackwing Install w/silicone coupler (DsC5)
DsC5 - To remove the piece, just loosen the worm gear and pull that thing off, looks more intimidating than it really is probably, just don't want to damage anything. It has pieces that go through holes in the worm gear, so do i have to take the worm gear off or just loosen it. Then I use the old worm gear from the original air box to connect the coupler to the blackwing, then the new coupler to attach the coupler to the maf. Hopefully thats right?
THanks for the help

Re: 01 Blackwing Install w/silicone coupler (Black01Coupe)
It definitely looks more intimidating than it really is. It took me like two hours just to pry the old filter off, it didn't seem like it should take that much pressure. I looked on the tech tips page and this should help:
The first one shows the little piece that comes off

The second one shows the almost finished product, with that second coupler.

I don't remember exactly what clamps went where, but it shouldn't be overly important. I remember the one with the notch cut in it. It all came together correctly after just thinking about it. Maybe someone remembers exactly which clamp went where. If not, like I said I can take better pics in the daylight tomorrow.
