Can anyone tell me how I can find out which Pulley is producing the squeal? I've replaced the tensioner and the Idle pulley and I still get that squealing noise. Not so much when it's idling, but when I press on the gas, a lot. I also replaced the Serpintine belt. Help
I think most people replace both the tensioners as well as both of the pullies and the belt. Check to see if it squeals when the AC is on which will help isolate the problem. Another trick is to use a long cardboard tube (like the one found in giftwrap roll) and isolate the squealing that way.
First you need to isolate which of the two belt systems has the squeal.
1. remove the lower (A/C) belt. you won't have A/C but you can drive the car without issue.
Drive until you confirm that you have or do not have the squeal.
Not squeal = the problemis on the other ( serpentine system)
Squeal = it is on the A/c system
Now remove the offending belt and had spin each pulley
they should spin freely not wobble and not feel gritty.
Find one that binds feels gritty or wobbles that is your culprit.
On the serpentine system .. if all are ok then it is likely your harmonic balancer.
On the A/c system if all are fine then it is likley your A/C clutch.,
I'm having the same problem. Think I'll replace all pullies and belts and be done with it. Otherwise it will probably happen again with another in another month.
