Default Which heads?

I have a 12:1 402 with afr 205's that pings when hot out 90+.
Running 18 degrees timing w/ tr6 plugs is the only way to make it stop.
Ive been told it's to small a head for my my comp ratio . I'm thinking about selling or trading my heads for larger ones. What option do i have if i wanted to trade straight up for some used heads better suited for my set up or would porting my 205's work for less?

Thanks guy's

Why don't you call Tony Mamo at AFR to discuss? He would be the expert and is always willing to help!

more camshaft can help bleed off some of that compression and also make you go faster...food for though

That way he sells another pair of heads. Seems to me I've seen many previous posts extolling the benefits of the 205s with stroker motors.

I'm happy w/ the power the 205's put down, i made 435/450 w/ them ( stock ls6 manifold and shorty headers),
do you guys think that 1.85 lifters and a thicker head gasket would get the comp ratio low enough? I switched to a 160 deg thermo tonight and lowered my fan temps, it dropped my idle temp 15 deg to 185 should help some.

it didn't ping at all at willows springs with 100 octane in 106 deg heat. not looking for much more power as i will likely have to upgrade my radiator for track use. just have a slight ping when its hot. wish we had better gas around here.

Thicker head gaskets is will kill your quench. That controls the flame propagation in the cylinders and might even make it worse. You need quench to violently cram your mixture toward the spark plug and help properly burn the mixture in the cylinders.
As for the lifters, you're talking about rockers. Not a good idea to just throw higher ratio rockers on a car. You risk closing the crucial gap between the valve and piston. It won't lower compression either. You might be able to get a few cc's of material removed from the combustion chambers to lower your compression or like was mentioned before, lower your dynamic compression with a different cam. If you're a weekend warrior, you can add some Torco octane booster. Too expensive to run if it's a daily driver though.
