So I got my baby back today from Guldstrand Motorsports. I just loaded the powerloader a couple days earlier and dropped it off to get the Transgo kit and TTS Headers installed. WOW! What a difference that made. The car now sounds great at WOT and has just a hint of a header sound at idle. BUT the car will take a few days of driving to get used to the way it now shifts. Guldstrand talked me into one spacer only until I get a higher stall convertor on the car. Good choice as this thing will snap your neck in 1st to 2nd shifts at WOT. Even going around a corner I managed to get a few peoples attention when I gave it an average amount of throttle and the rear end broke loose. I don't dare turn off the T/C on this car until I get a better feel for it. Would I do it again? Well..............HELL YA. This is a sports car and it now feels like one. I will be getting my Hotcam in next month and now I want a Corsa Indy system. Guldstrand also lowered it and gave her the Zo6 alignment. I am very happy, but also spent way too much of my wifes money.
Don't ya just love that Transgo 1-2 shift! I've got thr Tpis headers and the protorque 2400.With the 3.42 rear theres little chance of traction.I used 2 spacers and drilled out the 3rd and 4th gear feedhiles to .155.now I snap my neck in 3 and 4 too!
vstella, I brought your post about your Transgo install with me to Guldstrand. I also wanted that same feel in 3rd and 4th. Now it does shift hard but not the neck snapping shift of 1st to 2nd, so I'm going to ASSUME they blew me off. Didn't think to ask as I was so glad to get the car back after a week.
Jeff - Guldstrand has a great shop and knows his stuff - just wanted to give you some advice on that hotcam -DO NOT DO IT with your auto - there are a lot of other great cams out there that will make more power and work way better with your auto car.......by the way - gotta love the difference the alignment makes!!
OliverM5, thanx for the advice on the cam. I will do a little more reading up on it. As far as the alignment goes, I wasn't sure if it was because they lowered the car, aligned it or a combo of both, but this thing feels like it's on a rail.
Jeff, thanks for posting. What does your 2-3 shift feel like? I want all of you mods but have to take it one step at a time. Is there any reason why you powerloaded before installing Transgo? Shouldn't the Transgo be mentioned when ordering powerloader? Thanks - Walt
waltzC5, I had ordered my powerloader in Aug and it just came in (long story). I got the idea to put in the Transgo after reading all the posts about the kit this past month. Everytime someone on this damn Forum does something to thier car I must follow.(It's a cult thing I guess). I was told by Steve Cole at TTS that it might be okay as is, and if not he would adjust the shift points for me. In my case it worked fine. Shifts HARD and FIRM at 6200rpm. As far as the 2-3 shift goes it is only slightly more firm than the powerloader change but definitely an improvement. I would have liked it to shift more like 1-2 so next time I take it to Guldstrand I will have them drill out the 3rd and 4th gear feedhiles to .155 as vstella did. I really can't say how much I love this mod, but fuel mileage and tire wear has gone to hell. BTW, my wife hates how it now shifts.
Jeff, I am extremely happy everything turned out how you wanted with these mods!
I have to agree with Oliver on his cam comment. Do some research on ls1.com and ls1tech.com and figure out what cam is right for your setup. With an A4 and no torque converter you definitely want to go with something where you would not have to raise the idle very much.
It seems to me everyone is talking about a neck snapping 1-2 shift which for 169.00 you can get the same result from Hypertech.I know your also downloading extenive data to the PCM but unless your car is highly modded do you really need it for TTS headers, exhast and LS-6 manifold, after all the car has its own relearn built into the PCM.
It just seems to me when you crack open the motor for cam/head,SC or any stroker work that should be the time to contact Steve.
I know a handful of tuners who dont do PCM work on 382 CI strokers, gofigure othersend it out for headers, intake and a borla.
Good luck Im Happy your enjoying your mods and if you ever make it to AZ. we'll slap it on the Dyno and see what the mods did for you.
Yours truly, David S.XTREME MOTORSPORTS (480)517-4969
First of all I think that this is a great forum. I don't know where else I could find people so willing to help with my endless questions. I have not done any performance work on my cars in over 10 years (The last shift kit I installed was on a powerglide). I have owned some bad a** cars including a 10.90 GTO two Roadrunners,'78 Vette,'87 GN ,repairs/mods were more straightforward. But trying to decide what to do next with my '00 vette is d**n confusing. I don't have the cash for "expensive experiments". I don't plan on racing this car, just want it to sound and shift like a corvette should. The Transgo mod sounds like a mod I can afford and seems to offer "bang for the buck". I understand that firmer shifts are actually better for the trans. but does anyone know if GM warranty is voided. If so this mod is OUT.
Thanks - Walt
