My vehicle has been stored for the winter and has a battery issue which I don't understand. I generally put a float charge on my batteries every few months. This one suddenly decided to show that it was not charging. Each cell checks good for specific gravity, and voltage is around 12 or slightly above (tiny meter, so hard to read). When put on the battery charger, the charger shows 0 amps, though. Also, when attempting to start the engine there is nothing (no clicks... nothin'). the battery was out of the car for the last year and when attempting to charge. It is a few years old, but well within the "warranty" period.
Any ideas?
...and if you already have a quality float maintenance charger (BATTERY TENDER or CTEK are most popular), use it anytime your car is in storage mode for periods of time. It's probably to late to do so "every few months" unless the car is driven and alternator charged at least once a month.
Don't allow the battery to discharge and then expect a float maintenance charger (low amp input) to bring the battery back to life. Each discharge shortens the battery life.

Hi, the battery showing 12v is severely discharged, and from the history of it probably also severely sulphated, which means it will not charge up fully again if at all. A fully charged wet flooded battery should read 12.65v, at 12.25v it is 3/4 discharged. The float charger will not show any current flowing without a load on it. It needs to sense a chargeble battery to activate.
Take the battery back and get a new one using as much of the warranty as you can. Keep the float charger on any battery you use whenever the car is not going to be used for more than 3 days or more, and you will get the full designed in use the battery was intended to give.
Good Luck
