I was asked to post this over here from Scan and Tune:
Check engine light came on yesterday and checked my codes and had a U1000H and a U1064H along with a Po480C---now there are 3 relays for the cooling system--a Omron 12177234 and 2 Seimens 12193604"s--should I just replace all 3--or is there an order they click on in????--Oh yea I have an 2001 Z-51 coupe. How much are these icecubes??--Mini relays--I am on my way to Indiana right now---should be cheaper in US!!
Got all the relays and replaced--but am still getting PO480C code

how did you isolate it to a relay problem? Have you verified the fans are working properly?
I actually did not----I just followed the code---sadly I replaced all the relays ---but the problem persists---hence I believe I have a fan problem??? Any hints on how to check fans???

Sure. Just use the service manual "Engine Controls/Description and Operation/Engine Cooling Fan Description" section to verify proper operation of the fans. That will give you a starting point.
Sorry Sam---I am in Indiana right now---but will check when I get back to Ontario this weekend---but I think I checked all the fuses originally and they looked ok---and at Carlisle I did buy the manuals--so I can check the fans also!!
Put another fuse in and took for a cruise--I punched it and blew the fuse again??? So I shall have to dig deeper into this than I thought---both fans turn free--as I thought one may be seized???
Check for a blown #49 - 30amp fuse in the underhood fuse panel. If it is blown, then the left side cooling fan is probably shorted.
As I said before in Scan & Tune, the left side cooling fan motor is probably shorted. To check, unplug the left cooling fan & road test, if the #49 fuse doesn't blow, this means the wiring isn't shorted - replace the left cooling fan motor.
Wullie
With a Tech 11 you can switch on and off the fans detect current draw etc all while looking at teh fan itself......pm me for more details...
Ian
WOW!!!----I jacked her all up and went under to unplug the left fan as advised--and found last spring when I installed my Vararam--when I pulled the fan shroud----I had not hitched in on to the reciever in the botton----hence the fan was lying on the 2 wires!!!---one was bared thru---disassembled and taped up---put new fuse in and road tested---NO PROBLEM!!!!---Thanx guys---thanx Ian!!! We are good to go!!!
