plugs are good for 100,000 so I doubt it's the issue.
Well, the General says the plugs are good for 100k miles. They'll go that far, but a little more frequent change is a good thing.
The notes I've read have looked like 50k to 70k is about what's average. Depends on driving habits, too. My '02 vert had 33k miles when I changed the plugs, but it had been driven around the Santa Monica area for about six years, so never really got used hard (or much - that's about 5k miles a year).
Your stumbling issue could be plugs, but could also be injectors. Do you run a fuel system cleaner through the car occasionally? I've seen recommendations for Chevron Techron at regular intervals, and I run it through my car about every 5k miles. Twice in the first thousand I owned it. The car ran a bit smoother, and the mileage seemed to pick up a bit - better atomization, I guess.
The other positive I've read on the form, regarding Techron, is that it helps keep the fuel pumps and fuel level floats working well. Modern gas is so lacking in lubricants that apparently a film forms on the parts in the tank. Sulphur, if memory serves. Anyway, the Techron fuel system cleaner helps control that, too.
YMMV. But it's worked fine. Oh, and my '02 just sounds more like it has a bigger cam than my '99 did. Probably the six speed in the '02, so you can detect the light lope, vs the automatic in the '99, which kept the engine under a little load, even at idle.
