So I installed a Peripheral Ipod2car about 6months ago and everything worked great. My 1st gen iphone charged and played music through the factory radio as it should have. I then was a fool and bought the new iPhone 3G. I connected my Ipod2car and the music started playing. I didn't think anything was wrong at all.
Then I look down and see that my phone battery is draining and it is not charging. After extensive research I find out that apple changed its charging system from firewire(12v) to usb(5v). After waiting for a converter from apple I finally found one.
It is the Scosche Passport. I plugged it in to my Ipod2car and the clouds opened up and sun shinned through. My new iphone was finally charging. Then all of a sudden the sky's started to get black on me and my music only plays out of my phone speakers.
I wiggled the connection around and like Christmas vacation, the lights came on or music and all was good.
Then 25 seconds later all was not good. So my long winded question to everyone with an iPhone 3G and ipod2car is....
Has anyone tried the Scosche Passport converter with this setup and does it work? Do some of the dip switch settings need adjusting or am I pretty much going to have to charge for an hour then drain my battery for a few more hours removing and adding the converter?
I know this thread is a little old, but wanted to throw this info in for people to reference. Peripheral has released a cable to fix this problem, so you won't need a work around solution:

Are you getting "CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS ACCESSORY" Message on your iPod/iPhone?
Most car dock connectors on the market today charge iPods/iPhones with 12V through the FireWire portion of the 30-pin dock connector. For 2008 Apple removed 12V (FireWire) charging option from the iPhone(3G), Touch (2G), Classic (120GB) & Nano (4G) ; this means that the dock connector you may already have will still perform its intended function, but fail to deliver a charge to these new iPod/iPhones. Peripheral Electronics answered the call with the recently released PODCBLBM-5V.

THANKS for this. I've been holding off on going the double din mod route and if I can charge and play my 3G with just a cable swap, that will be great. One question though... Can callers be heard through the car speakers with the updated cable? If so, that would be awesome, but I'm guessing... not.
I think not... I will add a bluetooth speaker set to the car to accomplish everything. But it would be awesome if you could. I am ordering the cable right now... This has finally solved my only issue with the iphone and this!!!!
