I recently installed ASP underdrive, since then horrible noises are coming from the AC belt, checked the tensioner bearings & have a tried a slightly shorter new belt. From the underside I can visually see the align is incorrect between the compressor & the pulley. With the stock pulley the belt contact area on the compressor is much less that's why I'm sure there is no noise problem with stock pulley. It does not look like there is any way to change the AC compressor alignment, has any member out there experienced this issue?
Sounds like you didn't get the balancer all the way seated. Since the compressor is so close it would be most noticable there. Did the bolt torque to all way when you installed it?
The pulley is on correctly, as the main belt lines up perfectly. The visual problem is the belt wanting to walk towards the rad. Why, because the AC pulley is not parallel to the underdrive, the reason it is not a problem with the larger pulley is because the belt does not wrap as far around the compressor pulley. The more the belt follows the groves the more it will aggravate the alignment.
By the way I fabricated a proper pulley installation tool to insure that it did seat correctly.
Did you buy the pulley new or used? Know the ASP part#?
The LS1 F-bpdy and GTO pulleys will fit the crank, but are different in that the belts are spaced out from the engine about 3/4" more on those cars compared to the Vette-specific pulley. If you bought one used, might have gotten the wrong one.
