Default Kinked Frame repair

Ouch. After an accident (front-end driver's corner) my frame has two kinks, one before the suspension and one after, and the skid plate ripped out of the end of the frame. The impact sheered off the nosecone to the outside of the frame rail, exposing the wheel entirely. Its a stock 2000 C5 vert.

The shop doing the teardown estimate says they need to replace the front half of the frame from under the drivers seat, removing powertrain, interior, floor panels, etc. The labor involved will total the car.

How practical is it to section the frame? Or would I be better off just letting them total it and get another one?

Thanks for any opinions. At least it's at the end of our driving season.

The frame can be repaired safely, there are even procedures for it in the service manual. It should be a very reputable shop though, since the car will need to be put on a computer frame machine afterwards. I talked to a buddy of mine that works at a dealership and he said that once it comes off of the frame machine, it is better than new. You wouldn't believe how off some frames can be. When I used to race motorcycles, I took my bikes to a place called CompuTrak and had the frames done. The difference is very noticeable.

The repair they are quoting you(1/2 a framerail from seat/sill forward) is the prescribed repair procedure in the factory manual. And yes,it will probably total it,but you want it repaired correctly.Sorry !

After accidents they are never the same.. this is 95% of the time, because most people performing the work are not going to have the time to get every detail 100% dead on... not to say many don't do a good job.. it's just how it is...

Thanks for all the replies. It's heading to the great parts bin in the sky.

I thought I'd post some pics to maybe win the "least appearance of damage to total it" award.

And some more pics.
