im going to change the tranny fluid and filter. i planned on using ac delco filter. is there a better filter to use (k&n ect.) is there a better tranny fluid then mobil synthetic. also while im there i plan on doing the differential. what type of fluid do you all use?

AC Delco filters are a good choice. GM Dexron VI fluid is the latest in the evolution of Dexron ATF's, and is recommended for all GM cars and trucks built since 1949.
Mobil 1, RedLine, and Royal Purple synthetic gear oils are all good choices for the rear. RedLine and Royal Purple already have the limited slip additive in them.

I recently replaced the fluids in my tranny and diff with Redline. I also added the anti-slip additive. I didn't read on the bottle that the anti-slip additive was already in the fluid.

For the filter the stock filter is fine, I believe it maybe made by SPX/Filtran for GM... Unless my memory is wrong..
There are alot of good fluids out there... I am very happy with amsoil, that is why I sell it. Their Universal syn.. ATF is great, I had a couple guys with Z06's that were getting trans temp warnings with the stock fluid while racing, so we changed over to amsoil, both said it seems to shift smoother (the shifter that is) and they no longer were getting warnings. That was pretty good proof to me...
Also I use it in my C4, I took it out of the road course with the 2600 stall that is in it beat the hell out of the thing on the track trans temp pegged, and NO trans issues. Which I was shocked because I have rebuilt the trans a few times already due to the heat..

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but you can't "change your trani fluid" yourself unless you happen to own a powert flusher. All yoiu can do yourself is change the filter and the fluid in the pan. that leaves aprox 70% of the old fluid inside your transmission. Nothing wrong with that IF all you really want to do is change the filter.
If you want to "change ALL the trani fluid" you eithert have to take it to a dealer or a transmission shop that has a power flusher. To make sure I'm not BSing you just check the transmission capacity in your owner's mnaual ( I think its somewhere around 14 quarts give or take = I'm too lazy to look it up now). When you change the filter all you can get back into the trani is 3-4 quarts. What about the other 10 or so quarts??

your right. ill have to have a shop do it. is there anyway to get all the fluid out without that tool?
Yes, but first let me describe how the "tool" works...
Most flush machines have sometime of what I call a bladder system, ect. were one side is fresh fluid the other is the old fluid coming into the machine. Normally, the trans pumps fluid through the cooler and back to the trans. The flush system basically "splices" in the the line so as the old fluid is being pumped out by the trans it forces the NEW fluid back into the trans.
Now some people do this method at home, I don't is can be messy if your not careful and I work at a shop that has a flush machine. Basically disconnect the trans cooler line and run a hose to a bucket.. you can start it up, let it pump it out and shut the engine off right when the fluid starts to airate. do not let it run longer as you will be dry running the pump... somepeople add fluid to the trans while it's running to purge the system. But it's hard to do this on a C5 without someone helping to pump the fluid in ect.. this is the basic idea of it.. but.. this is if you want to be super cheap...
Otherwise take it to a shop with a trans flush machine..

I just checked the gallon container of RedLine full synthetic 75w-90 gearoil that I used. (A gallon is enough for two fluid changes)
It does say "contains limited slip additive" on the back label.
im dont mind spending money on my car, but i dont like leaving it with someone else to work on. i know how i treat my corvette and really doubt that many others would do the same. ive become mechanically adept over the years, stemming from my f-body years. i like the idea of putting fresh fluid in to flush the system. ill do it to my trans am, then try the vette. thanks for the input, im glad to hear that this operation can be performed in my shop (garage)
I hate to have others work on my Vettes but did have Chevy totally drain all 15 quarts out of the tranny. Use Mobil 1 synthetic and AC delco filter.
I also used Mobil 1 synthetic in the diff. 1 -800- ASK MOBIL says to add the additive.
