I have been fighting with my key fob for the past week and I have had it. I will start from the beginning my fob stop working last week so I replaced the battery first instinct. Well it worked for a couple of days and then it stopped to I went through the syncing process holding the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 7 seconds and I heard the horn chirp and it worked. Later that day I went to use it again and it was like it was not synced so I synced it again and it works for a few minutes but then it is like it becomes unsynced for some reason. I am not sure what I should do at this point can you guys help me please. Thanks for the help in advance.
Maybe you have a bad battery. Sometimes this style battery sits on a shelf for years. They usually have a 2 or 3 year shelf life, if you are buying a namebrand battery. Do't buy the cheap batteries from the flea market or dollar store.
Actually you didn't start at the beginning. If you had started with "my car is a 2000" it would have saved time. For some reason the 2000's have started doing exactly what you describe with great frequency. If you search, you'll find plenty. You need a new fob. The best price I've seen is Gene Culley on the forum. It needs to be the 2000 fob, nothing newer. The 98/99 will work with your car, but will have a passive switch that will not be of any use with your car. The last price I saw Gene advertise was $59, but check his web site.
His sig is filled out....perhaps you should have looked.
I did, how do you think I knew it was a 2000. If it had been mentioned in the question, I wouldn't have had to look and it would have saved time, just as I stated.
Now vetteaholic5, no need to apologize, I was making a point that the 2000 fobs have been exhibiting the symptoms you describe with great regularity. I have responded to at least 10 recently with the same answer and all that have posted the results say the fob fixed it. If you search fob, you'll find that a large number of the problems are with the 2000. I don't know if it is an age related issue or if, since it was a one year fob, maybe it had some issues. Either way, a new fob will fix your problem.
I agree. The fobs appear to have a lifetime. Sometimes there is a broken connection on the integrated circuit and other times not. All you can do is replace them with new ones.
