Just before the holidays I posted what parts were needed to install a hud in a coupe that did not come equipped with one. I ran into one big problem I could not complete the installation because I needed the wire harness that connects to the HUD switch. The one that is supplied with the car on the cluster is a 5 wire set up the correct one to make the HUD work is eleven wires. It is not a dealer part and no one will sell it. After much research I was able to find an Engineer at Nippon-Sikei the manufactures who would send me a harness as long as I didn't mention his name. Here are some facts if you own a 99 coupe or convertable the hud gage cluster that came with you car will except a hud as long as you have all of the parts the hardtop though will not remember this was not an option on the hardtop that year, so the cluster is different why GM does this beats me. Another fact on a non-hud winshield the image is just as clear as one with a hud windsield my friends who own vetts with the hud could not tell the difference. So there you have it I will post the name and address of the company who has the wire harness for those who are interested in doing this mod. However, I must advise you that unless you get your parts from a parted car not to attempt this mod like me you may wind up short because of the wire harness. All of the parts can be purchased new from GM parts direct but not the harness. So good luck to those who are up to the challange.
