Default 224/224 114LSA cam

Anyone have any thoughts using this cam on a H/C package?
I'm right in the ordering stage, but am having second thought about the cam I chose. I could use the Thunder Racing 220/220 114 cam, and Oliver used it in his, and really likes it. Of course it needs to pass CA smog, and the 216/216 cam works but not sure what the difference is between the cams in hp/tq and idle.
I need to decide by next week to finalize the deal.
BTW - MMS is doing the install *Stage II heads/headers/intake etc..

Any thoughts guys?

George

The 224 is a great Cam w/Heads.

If it's a Comp grind, you'll def be happy.
Recc a 900rpm idle.

Without knowing the lift, I'd say that cam will likely pretty pretty radical. I had a 226/234, 554/575 and it was pretty noticeable. I woudn't want to be that the cam you mention will pass emmissions, but I've been wrong plenty of times before!

You'll almost certainly lose some low end torque.

I've got this cam in my ARE STII setup. No problems with idle (though did need to drill the TB the lower the pintle counts) though a bit lumpy and the car pulls very strongly to its raised redline. Really nice if you like rowing the gears in and out of corners. I've got no interest in drag racing, so don't mind the slightly reduced low rpm torque. Nick knew that when he setup my H/C package, and picked this cam accordingly.

Hope this helps.

Sounds as if I bought the same cam. Comp cam 114 LSA 224/224 567" lift. Got mine from Cartek, waiting for ported LS6 heads from them now.

I have decided on the 216/216 cam instead. I was worried about the 224's idle and SMOG issues, as well as having lights lightup my dic
